Why Buying In Bulk Saves You Money

Maybe those English teacher jobs pays you well but you still need to save yourself some money, here is one way.

Buying in bulk can save you money because buying in bulk will always result in a lower per unit price. Do the math on any product in the grocery store – the larger package will always result in a lower per unit price. So this can save you money as compared to buying individual units of the product.

For example, say a package with one roll of paper towels costs a dollar. But a package with four rolls of paper towels from the same company might cost three dollars, which means one roll would only cost 75 cents. Buying the package of four rolls saves you 25 cents per roll as compared to buying the four rolls separately. As to why manufacturers can afford to reduce unit prices when you buy in bulk, it is simple economics. They make more when you buy more, so they can afford to reduce prices while still making a profit, as long as you buy more.

Of course, buying in bulk will only save you money if you use the products. If you end up not using it, you end up losing money. This is why you should be cautious about buying perishable items in bulk. Fresh food with a short expiration date can go bad before you can use it.

Buying non-perishable items, like paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in bulk is always a good idea, since these household essentials will not go bad. Of course, if you do not have the space to store these items, this will limit your ability to buy in bulk.

If space or perishability is an issue, you can consider splitting bulk purchases with friends or family. That way, the items can still be consumed completely and purchased at the low unit cost.
